Born in Yorkshire, Gil started training in his teens at the Birmingham Theatre School and after 10 years working as an actor, turned to the world of comedy.
He started in the tough venues of the Northern Men's Clubs and during the summer working in holidays camps, Pontins, Warners, Butlins etc. He spent 5 years in this vein learning his trade as a comedian.
After 33 years in the business he is still earning but now has many credits to his name. His clever manipulation of material means that he can cover all aspects of comedy. He is described by one TV producer as the best warm-up man in the business, where his material has to be a pure as the driven snow.
His cabaret act is a riot of laughs and his After Dinner speaking can keep audiences enthralled. During his long and varied career Gil has entertained the British Armed Forces all over the world including Germany, Ireland during the troubles, The Falklands (after the war), Cyprus, Belize and many other Army venues in the UK.
Gil is also founder of the Comedians Golf Society which, since it's inception in 1977, has raised in excess of 4 million pounds for those less fortunate than ourselves.
Gil still acts, his parts include; Gag Halfunt in 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy', Philip to John Cleese's Petrucio in Taming of the Shrew plus numerous appearances in Last of the Summer Wine to name but a few.
